Chores & Co ("Chores & Co", "we", "us", or "our") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, protect, and process information when you visit www.choresandco.com, use app.choresandco.com, or use any Chores & Co products and services (collectively, the "Services").
This Privacy Policy is intended to comply with applicable privacy and data-protection laws, including the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 ("POPIA") of South Africa and, where applicable, the European Union General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR").
This Privacy Policy also describes how Chores & Co handles information obtained through third-party integrations, including Google Calendar and other Google APIs, where a user chooses to connect those services.

1. WHO WE ARE
Chores & Co is responsible for the processing of personal information collected through our Services.
For purposes of POPIA, Chores & Co acts as the Responsible Party in respect of personal information for which we determine the purpose and means of processing.

2. OUR PRIVACY PRINCIPLE
Chores & Co is designed around data minimisation and privacy by design.
We aim to collect and retain only the information reasonably necessary to operate the Services and provide the functionality requested by users.
Our system is designed so that:
• The primary account identifier we collect is the user's email address;
• Numerical information entered into the application is encrypted;
• We do not intentionally collect unnecessary identifying information;
• We do not store users' payment card or banking credentials;
• Payments are handled by PayFast;
• Our application and database infrastructure uses Supabase;
• Firebase is used for notification and related application functionality;
• Google Calendar data is accessed only when a user chooses to connect Google Calendar and authorises the requested permissions;
• Google user data obtained through Google APIs is used only for the purposes disclosed in this Privacy Policy and in accordance with applicable Google API policies;
• We do not sell users' personal information;
• We do not use Google user data for advertising, targeted advertising, retargeting, data brokerage, creditworthiness determinations, lending purposes, or similar unrelated purposes;
• We do not use Google user data to train, develop, or improve generalized or non-personalized artificial intelligence or machine-learning models; and
• We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information.
Encryption does not necessarily mean that information ceases to be personal information or personal data. Where information can reasonably be associated with an individual, we continue to treat it as protected information under applicable privacy laws.

3. INFORMATION WE COLLECT
3.1 Email Address
When an account is created, Chores & Co collects the user's email address.
We use the email address to:
• Create and maintain the user's account;
• Authenticate or identify the account;
• Provide access to the Services;
• Send account-related communications;
• Send security notifications;
• Send service notifications;
• Respond to support requests;
• Communicate important changes to the Services; and
• Manage subscriptions and account status.
We do not sell or rent your email address to third parties.
3.2 Information From Connected Services
Users may choose to connect third-party services to Chores & Co to enable specific functionality.
Where a user connects Google Calendar, Chores & Co may access Google Calendar information that is covered by the permissions the user authorises.
The categories of Google Calendar information accessed depend on the specific Calendar functionality and permissions requested by Chores & Co.
We request only the Google Calendar permissions reasonably necessary for the functionality being provided and do not request access merely for possible future features.

4. INFORMATION ENTERED INTO CHORES & CO
Users may enter numerical or other information into the Chores & Co application as part of using the Services.
Numerical information entered into the application is encrypted.
We aim to minimise the amount of information that can be associated with an identifiable individual and do not intentionally collect unnecessary identifying information.
Users should not enter sensitive personal information into Chores & Co unless the application specifically requires such information.
Chores & Co does not intentionally request unnecessary information such as:
• Identity numbers;
• Passport numbers;
• Residential addresses;
• Telephone numbers;
• Full legal names;
• Financial account credentials; or
• Other sensitive personal information unrelated to the Services.
Information entered by users may include family schedules, chores, routines, shopping lists, meal plans, school-related information, reminders, achievements, rewards, trip information, and other information necessary to use the Services.

5. INFORMATION WE DO NOT STORE
Chores & Co does not store payment card or banking credentials in our application database.
We do not store:
• Full payment card numbers;
• Card security codes;
• Online banking passwords;
• Payment account passwords; or
• Other payment credentials.
Payment processing is handled by PayFast.
Chores & Co may receive limited transaction information from PayFast that is necessary to determine whether a payment or subscription has been completed, such as a transaction reference, payment status, or subscription status.

6. PAYMENT PROCESSING — PAYFAST
Payments for Chores & Co services are processed by PayFast.
PayFast is a separate payment service provider. Payment information submitted during a payment is processed by PayFast in accordance with its own privacy policy, security practices, and applicable laws.
Chores & Co does not store the underlying payment credentials in our application database.
PayFast may process information relating to payment transactions and may process or store information in jurisdictions outside the country where the information was originally collected.
For information about how PayFast processes personal information, please refer to PayFast's privacy policy.
PayFast Privacy Policy
Information processed directly by PayFast may be subject to PayFast's own retention periods, privacy practices, terms, and legal obligations.

7. SUPABASE
Chores & Co uses Supabase as part of its application infrastructure, including database and related backend services.
Information processed through Supabase is subject to the security configuration implemented by Chores & Co and the applicable terms and policies governing Supabase's services.
Chores & Co uses appropriate access controls and security measures to restrict access to application information.
Where applicable, database security features such as Row Level Security may be used to restrict unauthorised access to information.
Chores & Co remains responsible for determining what information is collected and how it is used within our application.
Supabase does not receive authority to use Chores & Co user information for unrelated purposes merely because it provides infrastructure services.
Where Google user data is processed through infrastructure provided by Supabase or another service provider, that processing remains subject to the limitations applicable to Google user data described in this Privacy Policy and applicable Google API policies.

8. FIREBASE AND NOTIFICATIONS
Chores & Co uses Firebase, a service provided by Google, to support notification and related application functionality.
Firebase may process information that is reasonably necessary to provide notification functionality and related technical services.
Depending on the functionality used by Chores & Co, this may include technical information associated with a device, application installation, notification delivery, or other information necessary to provide the relevant functionality.
We do not intentionally use Firebase to collect unnecessary personal information.
Chores & Co does not sell users' personal information through Firebase.
Firebase is operated by Google and may process information in accordance with Google's applicable privacy policies and data-processing terms.
For information about Google's privacy practices, please refer to Google's applicable privacy documentation.
Firebase notification processing is separate from the Google Calendar integration described in Section 9.
The fact that Firebase is provided by Google does not mean that Chores & Co treats Google Calendar data as Firebase notification data.
The specific Firebase services used by Chores & Co may change as we develop and improve the Services. Where necessary, this Privacy Policy may be updated to reflect material changes to the services or categories of information processed.

9. GOOGLE CALENDAR INTEGRATION AND GOOGLE USER DATA
9.1 Connecting Google Calendar
Chores & Co may provide functionality that allows users to connect their Google Calendar account to Chores & Co.
Connecting Google Calendar is optional.
A user must affirmatively authorise Chores & Co to access the requested Google Calendar information before Chores & Co accesses that information.
The Google account permissions displayed to the user are determined by the Google OAuth permissions requested by Chores & Co.
Chores & Co requests only the permissions reasonably necessary to provide the relevant Google Calendar functionality.
9.2 Google Calendar Information We May Access
Depending on the Google Calendar functionality enabled and the permissions authorised by the user, Chores & Co may access information such as:
• Calendar identifiers;
• Calendar names or labels;
• Calendar event information;
• Event titles;
• Event start and end dates or times;
• Event descriptions, where required for the enabled functionality;
• Event locations, where required for the enabled functionality;
• Calendar availability information; and
• Other calendar information necessary to provide the specific authorised functionality.
Chores & Co does not access Google data that is not covered by the permissions authorised by the user.
9.3 Why We Use Google Calendar Data
Google Calendar information is used only to provide or improve prominent, user-facing Chores & Co functionality associated with calendars, scheduling, routines, family planning, and related features that the user has chosen to use.
Examples may include:
• Displaying relevant Google Calendar information within Chores & Co;
• Helping users coordinate family schedules;
• Helping prevent scheduling conflicts;
• Supporting calendar and scheduling functionality;
• Providing calendar-related reminders or notifications;
• Synchronising calendar information where the enabled functionality requires synchronisation; and
• Answering a user's own schedule-related questions when the user intentionally uses a Chores & Co feature that requires connected calendar information.
Google Calendar data is not collected merely because it may be useful for future features.
9.4 Google Calendar Data and Cubi AI
Chores & Co includes Cubi AI, a family assistant that can provide user-facing assistance with schedules and other Chores & Co functionality.
Where a user intentionally asks Cubi a question or uses a Chores & Co feature that requires information from a connected Google Calendar, relevant Google Calendar information may be processed solely to provide that specific user-facing functionality.
Google Calendar data will not be used to train, develop, or improve generalized, foundational, or non-personalized artificial intelligence or machine-learning models.
Google Calendar data will not be used to create generalized AI or machine-learning training datasets.
Google Calendar data may be used only as necessary to provide the user's requested or enabled calendar-related functionality.
9.5 Google Limited Use Commitment
The use of information received from Google APIs by Chores & Co adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Google user data obtained through Google APIs, including Google Calendar data, is limited to providing or improving user-facing features that are prominent in the Chores & Co user interface and are consistent with the purpose for which the user authorised access.
We do not use Google user data for:
• Selling or transferring data to data brokers;
• Selling or transferring data to information resellers;
• Targeted advertising;
• Personalised advertising;
• Interest-based advertising;
• Retargeting;
• Serving advertisements based on Google user data;
• Determining creditworthiness;
• Lending purposes;
• Building advertising profiles;
• General commercial profiling unrelated to the authorised functionality;
• Training generalized or non-personalized artificial intelligence models;
• Training generalized or non-personalized machine-learning models;
• Unrelated product development;
• Unrelated analytics; or
• Any other purpose prohibited by applicable Google API policies.
We do not sell Google user data.
We do not allow Google Calendar data to be used for a purpose unrelated to the user-facing functionality for which the data was authorised.
9.6 Sharing and Processing of Google Calendar Data
Chores & Co does not sell or rent Google Calendar data.
Google Calendar data is not transferred to advertising platforms, data brokers, information resellers, or similar third parties.
Where Google Calendar data must be processed by a service provider in order to provide an authorised Chores & Co user-facing feature, such processing will be limited to what is necessary to provide that feature and will be subject to appropriate contractual, technical, and organisational safeguards.
Any processing of Google Calendar data by a service provider must remain consistent with the Google API Services User Data Policy and applicable Limited Use requirements.
Human access to Google Calendar data is restricted and will not occur except where reasonably necessary for security, abuse investigation, compliance with applicable law, or another circumstance expressly permitted by applicable Google policies, or where the user has provided appropriate affirmative consent where required.
9.7 Google Calendar Storage
Chores & Co may temporarily store or cache Google Calendar information where technically necessary to provide the connected calendar functionality.
Where Google Calendar information is stored, we apply reasonable technical and organisational security measures designed to protect it against unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, loss, or misuse.
We do not retain Google Calendar information longer than reasonably necessary to provide the connected functionality, maintain the user's active integration, meet legitimate security requirements, or comply with applicable law.
Where the user disconnects Google Calendar, Chores & Co will take reasonable steps to stop further access and to delete or de-identify stored Google Calendar information associated with the integration where it is no longer required for a permitted purpose, subject to legal obligations, security requirements, and technically necessary backup retention.
9.8 Disconnecting Google Calendar
Users may disconnect Google Calendar from Chores & Co where the functionality is available.
When a user disconnects Google Calendar:
• Chores & Co will stop requesting new Google Calendar information using the revoked connection;
• Chores & Co will no longer use the Google Calendar connection to provide connected-calendar functionality;
• Stored Google Calendar information associated with the integration will be deleted or de-identified when no longer required for a permitted purpose, subject to applicable legal and security requirements; and
• The user may also revoke Chores & Co's access through their Google Account settings.
Revoking access through Google prevents Chores & Co from continuing to obtain Google Calendar data through the revoked authorisation.
9.9 Changes to Google Calendar Data Use
If Chores & Co intends to access or use Google user data for a materially different purpose from that disclosed in this Privacy Policy, we will update the relevant privacy disclosures and obtain any consent or re-authorisation required before using the data for the new purpose.
We will not request additional Google permissions merely to "future proof" the application.

10. WHY WE PROCESS YOUR INFORMATION
We process information for purposes that are reasonably necessary to provide and operate the Services.
These purposes include:
• Providing the Chores & Co Services;
• Creating and managing accounts;
• Authenticating users;
• Managing subscriptions;
• Confirming payment status;
• Sending necessary notifications;
• Providing customer support;
• Maintaining application security;
• Preventing misuse and unauthorised access;
• Detecting and preventing fraud where applicable;
• Maintaining and improving the Services;
• Complying with applicable legal obligations; and
• Protecting our legal rights.
The general purposes described in this section apply to Chores & Co information as appropriate and do not override the specific restrictions applicable to Google user data described in Section 9.
Google user data obtained through Google APIs will be used only for the purposes specifically disclosed in Section 9 and in accordance with applicable Google API policies.
We do not sell personal information.

11. LEGAL BASIS UNDER THE GDPR
Where the GDPR applies, Chores & Co processes personal data on one or more of the following legal bases.
Performance of a Contract
We may process information where necessary to provide the Services requested by the user or perform our agreement with the user.
This may include processing information required to provide calendar, scheduling, household organisation, notification, subscription, and other functionality requested by the user.
Legitimate Interests
We may process limited information where necessary for legitimate interests such as:
• Securing our Services;
• Preventing abuse or fraud;
• Maintaining system integrity;
• Improving reliability and functionality; and
• Protecting our legal rights.
Where we rely on legitimate interests, we consider whether our interests are balanced against the individual's privacy rights.
Where Google user data is involved, legitimate-interest processing does not override or expand the purposes permitted under applicable Google API policies.
Legal Obligation
We may process information where necessary to comply with legal or regulatory requirements.
Consent
Where consent is required by law, we will obtain consent before processing the relevant information.
Where Google Calendar access is requested, the user must affirmatively authorise the applicable Google permissions before Chores & Co accesses the relevant Google Calendar information.
Where processing is based on consent, consent may be withdrawn at any time.
Withdrawal of consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before consent was withdrawn.

12. POPIA COMPLIANCE
Chores & Co processes personal information in accordance with applicable requirements of POPIA.
This includes principles relating to:
• Accountability;
• Processing limitation;
• Purpose specification;
• Further processing limitation;
• Information quality;
• Openness;
• Security safeguards; and
• Data-subject participation.
We seek to ensure that personal information is collected for specific, explicitly defined, and lawful purposes and that only information reasonably necessary for those purposes is processed.
Where Google Calendar data is involved, Chores & Co applies these principles together with the additional requirements applicable to Google API data.

13. DATA MINIMISATION
Chores & Co follows a data-minimisation approach.
We do not seek to collect information merely because it may be useful in the future.
Where information is not necessary to operate the Services, we generally do not request or store it.
This approach helps reduce the amount of personal information that could be exposed in the event of an unauthorised access incident.
The same principle applies to connected services.
For Google Calendar, Chores & Co requests only the permissions and information necessary for the relevant functionality.
We do not request broader Google Calendar access for possible future features.

14. DATA SECURITY
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards to protect information against:
• Unauthorised access;
• Unauthorised disclosure;
• Alteration;
• Loss;
• Destruction;
• Misuse; and
• Other unlawful or unauthorised processing.
Our security measures may include:
• Encryption;
• Access controls;
• Authentication controls;
• Database security controls;
• Restricted access to application data;
• Secure communications;
• Security monitoring and maintenance; and
• Appropriate security practices for third-party service providers.
Numerical information entered into Chores & Co is encrypted.
We take reasonable steps to ensure that access to stored information is restricted to authorised systems and persons who require access for legitimate purposes.
Google Calendar information is treated as protected user data and is subject to the additional use and access restrictions described in Section 9.
No electronic system or transmission over the internet can be guaranteed to be completely secure. We therefore cannot guarantee absolute security.

15. SECURITY COMPROMISES AND DATA BREACHES
If Chores & Co becomes aware of a security compromise involving personal information, we will take reasonable and appropriate steps to:
1. Identify and contain the incident;
2. Assess the information affected;
3. Take steps to mitigate potential harm;
4. Investigate the incident;
5. Strengthen security measures where necessary; and
6. Notify affected parties and regulators where required by applicable law.
Under POPIA, security compromises are handled in accordance with applicable legal requirements, including section 22 of POPIA.
Where the GDPR applies, Chores & Co will comply with applicable GDPR requirements concerning personal-data breaches, including notification to the appropriate supervisory authority and affected individuals where legally required.
Where an incident involves Google user data, Chores & Co will also take steps required under applicable Google API policies and contractual requirements.

16. WHO WE SHARE INFORMATION WITH
We do not sell or rent personal information.
Information may be shared with service providers where necessary to provide and operate the Services.
These may include:
• Supabase — application and database infrastructure;
• PayFast — payment processing;
• Firebase / Google — notifications and related application functionality;
• Google — where a user has authorised Google Calendar integration and where processing is necessary to provide the connected functionality;
• Hosting, infrastructure, security, and technical service providers;
• Professional advisers where reasonably necessary; and
• Government, regulatory, law-enforcement, or judicial authorities where legally required.
Third-party service providers are permitted to process information only to the extent reasonably necessary to provide their services or comply with applicable law.
Where required by applicable privacy law, Chores & Co will implement appropriate contractual, technical, and organisational safeguards when third parties process personal information on our behalf.
Google User Data Restrictions
Google user data obtained through Google APIs is subject to additional restrictions.
We do not transfer or sell Google user data to:
• Advertising platforms;
• Data brokers;
• Information resellers;
• Credit providers for creditworthiness determinations;
• Lenders for lending decisions; or
• Other third parties for unrelated commercial purposes.
Google user data may only be transferred where the transfer is necessary to provide or improve a permitted, user-facing Chores & Co feature, where the user has provided any consent required for that transfer, for security purposes, to comply with applicable law, or in another circumstance expressly permitted under applicable Google API policies.

17. INTERNATIONAL DATA TRANSFERS
Some of our technology and service providers may process information outside South Africa or outside the European Economic Area.
Where personal information is transferred internationally, Chores & Co will take reasonable steps to ensure that the transfer complies with applicable data-protection law.
Where the GDPR applies, international transfers will be made using an applicable lawful transfer mechanism where required, such as:
• An adequacy decision;
• Standard Contractual Clauses;
• Appropriate safeguards recognised under the GDPR; or
• Another lawful transfer mechanism permitted by applicable law.
Third-party providers such as PayFast, Supabase, and Google/Firebase may operate infrastructure or process information in multiple jurisdictions.
The privacy policies and contractual terms of those providers may therefore apply to information they process.
Where Google Calendar data is transferred or processed internationally, the transfer must remain consistent with applicable Google API requirements and the purposes described in Section 9.

18. DATA RETENTION
We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy.
This may include retaining information for:
• Providing the Services;
• Maintaining an active account;
• Managing subscriptions;
• Maintaining security;
• Resolving disputes;
• Preventing fraud or abuse;
• Meeting legal obligations; and
• Enforcing agreements.
When information is no longer required, we will take reasonable steps to delete, securely destroy, or anonymise it where appropriate.
Some information may need to be retained for longer where required by law.
Because our services use third-party infrastructure providers, certain technical records may also be retained by those providers in accordance with their own applicable retention periods and legal obligations.
Google Calendar Retention
Google Calendar information is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the connected calendar functionality, maintain an authorised integration, maintain security, or comply with applicable law.
Where Google Calendar data is no longer required for a permitted purpose, Chores & Co will take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it, subject to applicable legal, security, backup, and technical requirements.
When a user disconnects Google Calendar or revokes the applicable Google authorisation, Chores & Co will stop obtaining new Google Calendar information through that authorisation and will take reasonable steps to remove stored Google Calendar information that is no longer required for a permitted purpose.

19. ACCOUNT DELETION
You may request deletion of your Chores & Co account and associated personal information by contacting us at:

Where legally permitted and technically feasible, we will delete or anonymise personal information associated with the account.
Information that we are legally required to retain may be retained for the applicable statutory period.
Information held independently by third-party providers, such as PayFast, Firebase, or Supabase, may be subject to those providers' own retention policies and legal obligations.
Google Calendar Data and Account Deletion
When a Chores & Co account is deleted, Chores & Co will take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify Google Calendar information associated with the account where that information is no longer required for a permitted purpose, subject to applicable legal, security, backup, and technical requirements.
Deleting a Chores & Co account does not delete the user's Google Account or the user's Google Calendar.
Users may separately manage or revoke Chores & Co's access to their Google Account through Google's account controls.

20. YOUR RIGHTS UNDER POPIA
Subject to applicable legal requirements and limitations, you may have the right to:
• Request access to personal information we hold about you;
• Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information;
• Request deletion of personal information where permitted;
• Object to certain processing;
• Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent; and
• Lodge a complaint concerning the processing of your personal information.

21. YOUR RIGHTS UNDER THE GDPR
Where the GDPR applies, you may have the right to:

• Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;

These rights are subject to applicable GDPR conditions and exceptions.
Where Google Calendar data is involved, users may also withdraw the Google authorisation previously granted to Chores & Co.

For security purposes, we may need to verify your identity before providing access to, modifying, or deleting personal information.
We will handle requests within the timeframes required by applicable law.
Where a request cannot be fulfilled, we will explain the applicable reason unless we are legally prevented from doing so.
If your request concerns Google Calendar data, we may ask you to identify the relevant Chores & Co account or connected integration so that we can process the request appropriately.

23. SOUTH AFRICAN INFORMATION REGULATOR
If you are located in South Africa and believe that your personal information has not been handled appropriately, you may contact the Information Regulator of South Africa.

The Information Regulator is responsible for monitoring and enforcing compliance with POPIA and provides mechanisms for privacy complaints and data-subject requests.

24. EUROPEAN SUPERVISORY AUTHORITIES
Where the GDPR applies, you may lodge a complaint with the data-protection supervisory authority in the EU/EEA country where you live, work, or where you believe a violation occurred.
You are not required to contact Chores & Co before contacting your relevant supervisory authority, although we encourage you to contact us first so that we have an opportunity to address your concern.

25. COOKIES AND SIMILAR TECHNOLOGIES
The Chores & Co websites and application may use cookies and similar technologies that are necessary for:
• Website functionality;
• Authentication;
• Security;
• Maintaining sessions;
• Remembering relevant preferences; and
• Providing the Services.
If Chores & Co introduces non-essential analytics, advertising, or tracking technologies that require consent under applicable law, appropriate consent mechanisms will be implemented.
You may also be able to control cookies through your browser settings.
Where applicable, refusing non-essential cookies should not prevent you from using core features of the Services.
Google Calendar data is not collected through cookies or advertising technologies.
Google Calendar information is obtained only through the Google authorisation and API mechanisms used for the connected-calendar functionality.

26. CHILDREN
Chores & Co does not knowingly collect personal information from children where such collection is prohibited by applicable law.
Chores & Co is designed as a family-oriented service and may allow family information relating to children to be entered by an authorised parent, guardian, carer, or other adult user.
